Bypassing Dealers with External Discount Codes

How to set up a Quivers discount so that Shopify, WooCommerce, or other plugin orders using a matching discount code stay exclusive to your brand instead of being offered to dealers.

In This Article

Overview

Quivers has a "Bypass Connections" toggle on every discount (you may also see this referred to as "Seller Exclusive" or "Brand Exclusive") that keeps orders using that discount exclusive to you as the brand, instead of making them available to your dealer/retailer network. For orders placed directly in the HoverCart, this is a simple toggle on the discount itself.

For orders synced into Quivers from an external platform — Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or similar (a "plugin" order) — the same exclusivity is possible, but it depends on you keeping a matching discount set up in Quivers. This article covers how that matching works, and the two things you'll need to keep up to date any time your plugin platform's discounts change.

How It Works

When an order comes into Quivers from a plugin storefront, Quivers checks the discount code on that order against the discount codes configured on your discounts in the Quivers Admin Panel. If the incoming code matches a code on a Quivers discount that has Bypass Connections turned on, that order (or the affected line items) is kept exclusive to you and is not offered to your dealers/retailers for fulfillment.

Exact Code Match Required

The discount code sent in from Shopify, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce must match a code you've added to the Quivers discount exactly, character for character. If it doesn't match, Quivers has no way to connect the incoming order to that discount, and the order is treated like any other.

What Doesn't Need to Match

The rest of the discount's configuration in Quivers doesn't need to mirror your plugin platform. You don't need to recreate the discount percentage, discount type, or any other setting to match Shopify — Quivers isn't using this discount to calculate pricing for the plugin order, only to check the code and apply the Bypass Connections setting. What matters is that the code(s) match what's coming in from your plugin platform.

Note: Give the Quivers discount the same name as its Shopify counterpart anyway. Quivers doesn't check the name, but matching names make it much easier to audit your Quivers discount list against your plugin platform's discount list later.

Before You Start

Make sure you have the following in place:

  • Admin access to the Discounts section of your Quivers Panel.
  • The discount code(s) from Shopify (or your other plugin platform) that you want to keep exclusive to your brand.
  • The Quivers storefront that corresponds to your plugin store.

Note: This article assumes you already know the basics of creating and configuring a discount in Quivers — naming a discount, setting its Duration, and the Bypass Connections and Discount Requires Code toggles. See How to Create a Discount for those fundamentals.

Keeping Your Discounts in Sync

Quivers does not automatically detect new discounts or new discount codes you create in Shopify (or another plugin platform). Each time your plugin platform's discount setup changes, you'll need to make a matching update in Quivers using one of the two processes below.

1. When You Create a New Discount in Shopify (or another plugin platform)

  1. In the Quivers Panel, go to Discounts and click Add Discount.
  2. Name the discount to match the name of the Shopify (or another plugin platform) discount.
  3. Turn on Bypass Connections.
  4. Set the Duration to match how long the discount should run.
  5. Assign the discount to the storefront that corresponds to your plugin store.
  6. In the Codes section, add the matching discount code(s).

2. When You Add a New Code to an Existing Discount

If you add a new code to a discount that already exists in Shopify (or another plugin platform) and Quivers, Quivers won't pick up the new code automatically.

  1. In the Quivers Panel, go to Discounts and open the existing matching discount.
  2. In the Codes section, click + Add Codes.
  3. Enter the new code exactly as it appears in Shopify (or another plugin platform).

Best Practice: Because Quivers doesn't detect these changes automatically, periodically compare your active Shopify (or another plugin platform) discounts and codes against your Quivers discount list to make sure nothing was missed — especially around sales events, when new codes tend to get added quickly.

Things to Know

  • Automatic discounts (no code) aren't supported. This code-matching setup only works for orders that carry an actual discount code. If a discount is applied automatically at checkout with no code entered, your plugin platform doesn't send a discount code in the order data, so there's nothing for Quivers to match — that order is treated as a normal order and made available to dealers/retailers, regardless of the discount percentage or amount.

    • If you need orders using an automatic, code-less discount to also bypass dealers, contact support@quivers.com to discuss options for your account.

  • Resend to retailers won't override Bypass Connections. Resend only re-offers an order to retailers it was already offered to — so if a Bypass Connections discount kept an order from ever being made available to retailers, Resend to retailers won't change that; you'll still see that no items are available to retailers. If you want a specific dealer to fulfill a bypass-flagged order, use Send to retailer to send it to that dealer directly. See Orders in Quivers for more on Send to retailer vs. Resend to retailers.

  • Multiple discounts on one order. If an order has more than one discount applied and at least one of them has Bypass Connections turned on, the order — or the line items that discount affects — stays exclusive to you, even if another discount on the same order doesn't have Bypass Connections on.

  • Brand inventory still matters for fulfillment. When an order is kept exclusive to you through Bypass Connections, only your brand's own inventory counts toward fulfilling it — your dealers' inventory isn't used as a fallback. That means a seller-exclusive order can end up unfulfillable if your brand warehouse is out of stock, even if a dealer has the item on hand, so keep your brand inventory feed accurate for anything covered by one of these discounts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the discount's percentage or dollar amount in Quivers need to match Shopify?

A: No. Quivers only checks the discount code and the Bypass Connections setting — not the discount amount, type, or any other configuration. The price the customer actually sees still comes from Shopify.

Q: What happens to plugin orders whose code doesn't match exactly?

A: They're treated like any other order and offered to your dealers/retailers as usual, since Quivers can't connect them to a bypass-enabled discount. Codes must match exactly, character for character.

Q: Will an automatic (no-code) discount in Shopify keep orders exclusive to me?

A: Not with this setup. Automatic discounts don't include a discount code in the order data from Shopify, so there's nothing for Quivers to match against. Contact support@quivers.com if you need orders using an automatic discount to also bypass dealers.

Q: I added a new code to an existing Shopify discount — do I need to create a new discount in Quivers?

A: No. Open the existing matching discount in Quivers and use + Add Codes to add the new code to it.

Q: Will my bypassed orders show a countdown timer to dealers in the Admin Panel?

A: No. Orders kept exclusive to you through Bypass Connections don't broadcast to dealers and won't show a retailer-claiming countdown in your order list.

Q: Can I use Resend to retailers to send a bypassed order to retailers anyway?

A: No — Resend to retailers only re-offers orders that were already made available to retailers, so a Bypass Connections order will still show no retailers available. If you want a specific dealer to fulfill it, use Send to retailer to send it to that dealer directly. See Orders in Quivers for more on these two actions.

Q: What if more than one discount is applied to the same order?

A: If any one of the discounts applied to the order has Bypass Connections turned on, the order (or the items it affects) stays exclusive to you, even if the other discount(s) don't have it on.

Q: A plugin order came in seller-exclusive, but my brand is out of stock on that item — what happens?

A: Only your brand's own inventory counts toward fulfilling it — your dealers' inventory isn't used as a fallback. That can leave the order unfulfillable if your brand warehouse is out of stock, even though a dealer could have filled it. Keep your brand inventory feed accurate for anything covered by one of these discounts, and reach out to support@quivers.com if you run into this.
